Healthy Tip for Summer – Drink lots of Water

OK — you’ve heard it so often, but this is a reminder to drink lots of water.

If you are not well hydrated you may:
- be constipated
- have headaches
- have memory loss
- feel fatigued
- have dry skin
- have dry chapped lips

Here are the wonderful benefits of drinking lots of water – being hydrated:
- better health
- fat loss
- energy!

Here is another important point — sometimes when you are craving food, you really are dehydrated — so drink water, and the craving may pass.

30 Day Blog Challenge

Oh, this is the 30 Day Challenge with wonderful online friends who are motivating each other to blog every day for 30 days.  This is just in time for me, since I seemed to get side-tracked a lot this summer — we’ve had some wonderful sunny days, I attended a Folk Music Festival, I went to see Bobby McFerrin (“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”), and I’ve been swimming, and really relaxing a lot.

So, now to get a little busy!!!

My friend Nell has listed all the current participants here:

Hidden Salt in Foods

You may be surprised at how much salt is in foods.

Tuna in water, 3 ounces….. 1/4 teaspoon
Potato Chips, 1 ounce….. 1/8 teaspoon
Hot Dog Frankfurter, 1….. 1/4 teaspoon
Dill Pickle, 1….. 1/2 teaspoon
Corn, canned, 1 cup….. 1/4 teaspoon
Ham, baked, 3 ounces…… 1/2 teaspoon
Pizza, Cheese, 1 slice…… 1/2 teaspoon
Soy Sauce, 1 tablespoon….. 1/2 teaspoon
Pecan Pie, 1 slice….. 1/8 teaspoon
Bran Muffin, 1….. 1/4 teaspoon
Cottage Cheese, 4%, 1 cup….. 1/2 teaspoon
Cheese, processed, 1 ounce….. 3/16 teaspoon
Corn Flakes, 1 ounce…… 3/16 teaspoon
Cheeseburger, 1….. 3/8 teaspoon
Sauerkraut, canned, 1 cup….. 3/4 teaspoon
Salad Dressing, French, 1 tablespoon….. 1/8 teaspoon
Chicken Noodle Soup, canned, 1 cup….. 9/16 teaspoon

No wonder many people have salt cravings – because our bodies get used to more and more salt, and becomes almost “addicted” to salt.

Remember, we need less than 1 teaspoon a day of sodium, and most of us get much, much more than that.
