These are the before and after pictures of Jen. At only 5 feet tall, her 300 pounds put tremendous stress on her joints and organs. Jen shares her story of how she rewarded herself after losing her first 50 pounds and she also tells us what she eats now to maintain her 180 pound weight loss.

Are Grains and Carbs Bad For You? – Show #23

Are you confused by all the nutrition information available to you? Have you been inside a bookstore recently and noticed the dozens of healthy eating books on the shelves? Which one should you choose?

Spice WorldSome of the more popular diets today recommend eliminating all grains and carbs from your diet and replace them with only proteins. Because carbs are “bad”, these experts say, they make you “fat”. The carbs cause other food cravings and are not broken down as quickly.

However, other experts will tell you that eating grains full of fiber will help keep you full for longer to help combat cravings and overeating. So, who’s right?

My guest this week is Vanessa Smith, who is certified as a Diet Counselor and Life Coach, and owner of Integrative Wellness Works. She does not eat grains of any kind but she is quick to say that you must follow the signs your body gives you and living grainless may not be for everyone.

Vanessa shared with me some strange symptoms that are not normally associated with food allergies or sensitivities, yet when she eliminated grains from her diet, these emotional symptoms disappeared. Vanessa has since devoted herself to eating a whole foods diet and feels remarkably better.

Dr. Betty Martini Aspartame Awareness – Show #22

I’ve been concentrating my efforts this last month on giving you very important information about the dangers of artificial sweeteners because the public has a right to know what they are consuming in diet drinks, energy drinks, and “healthy” foods. Aspartame (Nutrasweet) and Splenda are chemicals that we have been fooled into thinking will help us live longer and healthier lives.

My guest this week is an expert in this field of study and she has made it her life’s mission to lecture and teach people about these dangers. Dr. Betty Martini was very generous with her time this week and shared that these sweeteners are actually precursers for some dangerous diseases, such as Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, hypo- and hyperthyroidism, and seizures.

Dr. Betty also shares hope by telling us it’s possible to eliminate sweeteners from our diets and detox our bodies to avoid the cumulative damage and also what steps you can do to raise awareness of this danger in your own communities during Aspartame Awareness Weekend on September 5-7th.
