I didn't know that caffeine was actually the pesticide, but yes it's apparently true that many fruit, veg, grains etc we eat can produce natural pesticides while they grow that helps them fight off predators - insects, fungus and weeds. Dr. Ames, a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley, and a Senior Scientist at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) researched this many years ago. http://www.bruceames.org/

Also a blog entry was written about natural pesticides last year on www.pesticideinformation.eu. http://www.pesticideinformation.eu/2008/08/pesticides-a-new-angle-or-why-we-should-oppose-the-eu-proposals-to-ban-pesticides-and-think-again-about-how-we-assess-the-impact-of-chemicals-on-health/

Hope that helps. Best wishes, Helen
