Diana Walker - 8 things you may want to know about me!

June 1, 2007

Well, since Carrie has “tagged” me, I’ve been thinking about what I’ll put here.

1.  Our family lived on 70 acres when I was between the ages of 5 and 11 – we had no running water (well, as my Mom always said —- “I did the running”) - because we had a well, an outhouse, no electricity, etc. etc.   We did have a wonderful organic garden.  No pesticides then.

 2.  I did grades 2 and 3 in one year.  Then I did grades 6 and 7 in one year, so I was 16 when I graduated from grade 12 (well, almost 17).

3.  I took Computer Programming in 1969 at McKay Technical Institute in Vancouver.  I was near the top of the class.  There were only 3 girls in the class, the rest were guys.  (the girls took keypunching…)  Can you believe it, the computers took up rooms and whole floors of the office towers…?!   I did not make it my career - I became an Executive Assistant instead.

4.  I probably spent about $20,000 on “Self Development”, “Self Help”, “Personal Development”, courses, seminars and retreats, in the 1970s and 1980s.  I was always way ahead of my time - learning about health, nutrition, inner growth, yoga, long, long before it was popular!

5.  Having my 2 sons was the biggest “personal growth” course in the world!!!   They have given me so much joy, and I love them to pieces - they know that too!  They are 19 and 29.

6.  I’ve been a single parent for the most part.  I met my ex-husband (the father of both my sons) — on the beach in Hawaii.  It was very romantic….  We were together, and then split up after my first son was born, then got back together several years later, and I had my second son, and then we split up again.  I completely have supported myself and my 2 boys during all the years.

7.  During the 1970s I lived for several months or years in the following places:  San Francisco, California; London, England; Honolulu, Hawaii; Lucerne, Switzerland; Vancouver, Canada

8.  My mother’s Mom worked for Mr. Rolls and Mr. Royce - yes, of “Rolls Royce”.  We still have family in London, England.  My mother’s grandma used to have “high tea” with the Queen Mother.

Well, there you have little snippets of me!

    Hi Carrie and Kari!

    Thanks for your comments.

Yes, it was tough being both Mom and Dad — but I know that it was meant to be and that the lessons I have learned have been what I’m here for! — I am reaping the wonderful rewards of motherhood, with 2 amazing sons, and their love and appreciation for me are more than any mother could ask for. It is all worth it!

I liked the quote on your blog, Kari:

“I believe if you don’t get it right the first time, it will come back again until you finally do change yourself.”

I agree - we are all here to learn our lessons - and I’ve learned lots!

    Diana,
What an interesting life you’ve led so far! I’m sure the rest of your long life won’t disappoint!!

I can feel how much you love your boys. :D And I’m grateful to people like you who were on the forefront of personal development! I think it’s helped make that information more accessible and acceptable now.

Thanks for sharing about you - I’ve loved learning about all the other NWAHMs!!

Thanks, Barb, for dropping by! I appreciate your comments, and, yes, I’ve been very fortunate to have really lived my life to the fullest — and I know I will continue to do so!

This is so much fun, isn’t it, learning about each other and developing relationships?!
    Thanks again
    Diana
