Hidden Salt in Foods
July 1, 2007
You may be surprised at how much salt is in foods.
Tuna in water, 3 ounces 1/4 teaspoon
Potato Chips, 1 ounce 1/8 teaspoon
Hot Dog Frankfurter, 1 1/4 teaspoon
Dill Pickle, 1 1/2 teaspoon
Corn, canned, 1 cup 1/4 teaspoon
Ham, baked, 3 ounces 1/2 teaspoon
Pizza, Cheese, 1 slice 1/2 teaspoon
Soy Sauce, 1 tablespoon 1/2 teaspoon
Pecan Pie, 1 slice 1/8 teaspoon
Bran Muffin, 1 3/16 teaspoon
Cottage Cheese, 4%, 1 cup 1/2 teaspoon
Cheese, processed, 1 ounce 3/16 teaspoon
Corn Flakes, 1 ounce 3/16 teaspoon
Cheeseburger, 1 3/8 teaspoon
Sauerkraut, canned, 1 cup 3/4 teaspoon
Salad Dressing, French, 1 tablespoon 1/8 teaspoon
Chicken Noodle Soup, canned, 1 cup 9/16 teaspoon
No wonder many people have salt cravings - because our bodies get used to more and more salt, and becomes almost “addicted” to salt.
Remember, we need less than 1 teaspoon a day of sodium, and most of us get much, much more than that.
