  1. I love mustard! Too bad I can’t have it right now since I’m back on my strict diet again. 🙁 I used to dip plain chips in mustard! Pretty weird, I know! lol

  2. I have craved mustard before, but I think it was the vinegar in prepared mustard that did the trick for me. When I was pregnant I especially wanted vinegary foods. Probably a signal for an additional need for calcium, no?

  3. I have been craving mustard for the last two weeks all i want to eat is organics seed mustards with almonds, cranberries, salads, fish and even fruits… I already had 3 bottles….Why do I have the cravings?

  4. Hi Margarita!
Here are benefits of Mustard – maybe your body is craving some essential minerals.

Mustard seeds are a very good source of omega-3 fatty acids as well as calcium, dietary fiber, iron, manganese, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, protein, selenium and zinc.

Selenium is a nutrient that has been shown to help reduce asthma, arthritis and certain cancers. Magnesium also reduces asthma and lowers blood pressure. The effects of mustard are currently being studied for menopausal women and on migraine attacks.

    Hope this helps you!

  5. Hello, Diana, here’s one for the books, my 3 1/2 year nephew has this craving for mustard. The first thing out of his mouth in the morning is “MUSTARD”. Now, we have had all kinds of condiments when we have celebrations that have involved food, and he seemed to attach himself to mustard. Is mustard bad for a 3 1/2 year old? His father is growing very concerned because his son is always asking for mustard. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Hi Dorothea – sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you!
Wow – that is interesting! – No mustard is not bad for a 3 1/2 year old, there are many benefits to it as you see here:

However, as with anything, we should have balance – and I’d definitely consult a Nutritionist or Dietitian at some point if the incredible cravings for mustard continue – just to be sure. You can understand that each person is different, and with your nephew it is interesting, and may pass, or there may be nutrients in mustard that he is craving.

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. I just had a baby 6 weeks ago, and I’m only craving mustard after I do my afternoon workouts. It just started after I began working out. Why?

  8. Hi. I’ve been craving mustard a lot lately. Like I’ll eat it straight out of the bottle. I also might be pregnant. Could this be a sign that I’m pregnant?

  9. Spicy mustard is what I am currently craving. I have been doing major yard work for the past 2 months. A lot of push mowing of >3 acres of my land is being maintained by me. A lot of sweating also! I have dropped a couple of dress sizes. Having mild dehydration despite efforts to replenish electrolytes. The mustard I am consuming has helped with dizziness.

  10. Good afternoon,

I too have cravings for mustard but on Aldies Colway Hot English Mustard. The cravings are so bad that when I get up in the morning the first thing I do is have a big mouthful. I usually eat a jar a week no problems. I am on a very strict diet at the moment and still want to eat mustard, should this be OK for me still to consume.
I don’t eat salt so maybe the salt in the mustard is what I am craving….just a thought but would just love to find out why I am so addicted.

  12. Every nite I eat unsalted pretzels with French’s Mustard. Not too sure about this but the more mustard I can get on that pretzel the happier I am. Then I fall asleep soundly with out coughing! Loving Mustard!!!! What is with me???

  13. Hi Elaine! That’s great that you have found that you can eat pretzels with French’s Mustard – and that it helps you to sleep soundly and helps you not to cough. The high mineral content in Mustard has many health benefits, and it looks like it works for you!! Thanks for your comment! Diana
