Spirulina and Cravings

February 4, 2007

Here are just a few of the wonderful properties of Spirulina.  The more healthy nutrition you can get in your body, the better it is, to help with reducing cravings for fast foods.  Spirulina can also help with cravings for salty foods — the mineral content is phenomenal.

1.  Rich in natural B complex, as well as Beta-Carotene, or Vitamin A

2.  World’s richest source of B12, needed for healthy blood cells

3.  Rich in iron, phosphorous, calcium, zinc, potassium, and magnesium.  Also contains trace elements, such as selenium and chromium

4.  300 percent more protein than fish, meat or poultry, without the cholesterol

5.  62 percent amino-acid vegetable protein, the highest known source

6.  More energy-boosting iron than spinach

7.  Neuro-peptides - food for the brain and nervous system to produce endorphins

8.  26 times more calcium than milk

9.  GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) which feed the immune system (studied in arthritis)

10.  Rich in Phycocyanin, which affects the stem cells found in bone marrow

11.  Feeds beneficial intestinal flora

12.  Virtually no calories — gotta love that!

Have you had your Spirulina today?

I used to take spirulina religously a few years back and your post just reminded me of how important it is. I must get myself down to the health food shop and grab a jar, thanks for the reminder. :)

    Hi Kylie!

Thank you so much for commenting on my new blog. (You are my first commenter, and I really appreciate it!).

Yes, isn’t it great to know that we can get some of our nutrition from “sea vegetables” as well as “land vegetables”!

You should check out a site called http://www.naturallygreen.co.uk . They are the cheapest i’ve found and saved me a fortune compared to high street prices and most other detox/superfood websites. They ship the same day if you order before 3pm and they their customer service is 2nd to none. I’ve been taking spirulina for about 12months now and the difference has been amazing.

    Healthy Lifestyle Features…

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…

Many thanks for the great article Diana.
As a lifelong vegetarian, I have been taking Spirulina for 13 years, so I don’t need any convincing of this fantastic natural product!
The only comment I would add is that there are many differing qualities of Spirulina on the market - not all are good! I would always recommend taking a Certified Organic Spirulina. The one I use is All Seasons Spirulina and has been certified organic by the Soil Association. I buy it directly from the company at All Seasons Health
Hope this helps, and stay healthy!
    Kind Regards,
    Robert
