Sugar in Sodas is making you gain weight
August 2, 2007
Do you crave sodas? Sugar cravings and the sugar in sodas could be making you gain weight.
Did you know that the average North American eats about 175 pounds of sugar a year? (I had been saying 150 pounds of sugar a year in all my seminars, but it looks like it has increased since the time I had those statistics!)
That is one-half pound of sugar every week, per person.
The fact that soda is the number one source of sugar in the American diet led me to do some research.
Did you know that Americans spend $56 billion annually on purchasing sugary soft drinks?
Look at the following statistics:
Soda 20 ounces, 240 calories, 17 teaspoons of sugar
Orange Drink 16 ounces, 260 calories, 15 teaspoons of sugar
Sports Drink 20 ounces, 140 calories, 9 teaspoons of sugar
I am very impressed to see that Alameda County Public Health Department in California has declared this a soda-free summer, and they are inviting their residents to participate. See more details here: Soda Free Summer
Wow — drinking just one 20-ounce bottle of soda each day for a year can make you gain weight - 25 extra pounds!
Do you want to lose weight? Just cut out all sodas.
