Detox to rejuvenate
If you’ve been eating the standard American diet for a long time you can probably benefit from participating in a cleanse or detox. A detox will help you eliminate toxins that have built up in your body, help you quickly get over addictions to these fake foods you’ve been injecting, and give you a great start to a healthy new you. Your cleanse and detox should be gentle and not harsh like some of the cleanses that are on the market, but something that is easy on your body giving it time to not only rest, but regenerate and become healthy again.

When our earth was not as polluted as it is today, a cleanse or detox was probably not necessary. Not only that, due to the nature of how food was eaten in the old days, with long periods of forced fasting due to the lack of food, cleansing was more automatic just simply due to natural circumstances. Today, we have an abundance of food in modern society, unfortunately a lot of that food is literally toxic, unnatural, and does not carry one ounce of nutrition. By participating in a cleanse or detox we can eliminate much of the problems associated with having all these toxins in our body, thus giving us a fresh start for new healthier habits to develop.
The important thing about a cleanse is to make sure that it is the right cleanse for you and that is it natural, and gentle. A popular cleanse that many stars have been purported to use, is actually very dangerous, void of nutrition, and not good for you at all. So make sure that whatever you choose that it is nutritious, organic, natural, and safe. If at any time you feel sick, or uncomfortable aside from a mild headache or a few joint aches, stop. Cleansing should make you feel great and aside from possible withdrawal from some addictive food addictives, if you’ve been eating a highly processed diet for a long time, you should feel better in a short period of time, after just a few days. If your cleanse product includes artificial ingredients, then it won’t make you healthier.
A really effective cleanse is to simply do a water fast for a couple of days, or a ten day juice feast (as opposed to fast!) that incorporates veggie juices into the cleanse. There are prepackaged organic cleanse mixes you can purchase too. Juicing can be very expensive, often costing upwards of 30 dollars per day, per person, to accomplish accurately. It’s important to realize that due to the depletion of nutrients in our modern soil, poor growing practices, and other issues, it can be hard to find organic veggies and fruits for every day cleanses. Using frozen veggies and fruit is an option but they will not have as much nutrient value as the other options.

For more punch of nutrition you can add wheat grass or more leafy greens to either recipe. Always use organic, pesticide free fruits and veggies for juicing for the best benefits. Remember, since this is very concentrated nutrition if you use conventionally grown fruits and vegetables the pesticides will also be concentrated. This is especially important when dealing with what is now known as the “Dirty Dozen” as labeled by the EWG.

If you are watching your budget, at least buy these twelve items organic to avoid the high concentration of pesticides found in and on them. Peeling and washing doesn’t really reduce the “dirtiness” of these items since the dirty measurement was taken the way people normally eat them, which means already washed and peeled if that is how they’re normally eaten. Some of these items are eat whole and are difficult to wash. There are some cleaning agents that you can buy to lower the pesticide level but in general it is best to buy these organic when possible.
When trying to detox your body it is important to eat as cleanly as possible. Avoid sugar, dairy, wheat and gluten for increased benefits. Other foods and additives to avoid are: caffeine, alcohol, preservatives, and high fat foods and replace them with fresh fruits and veggies when possible. Replace unhealthy oils with good oils like virgin coconut oil or cold pressed virgin olive oil. Use sea salts, instead of table salt, and add in a glass of lemon infused filtered water every day.
