<p>In a search for happiness, many people look for it in other people and not within ourselves.</p>
<p>Many people feel that things like money, a better job, better relationships..etc will make them happy.</p>
<p>In reality, to find true contentment you must look inside yourself and learn to be your own best friend.</p>
<p>That means you have to trust, love, and care for yourself just as you do the people you consider to be close to you.</p>
<p>Following are steps that you can incorporate into your life that will help you to feel more empowered and happy about yourself!</p>
<p>These are just some of the many practical strategies my friend Aurelia provides to Journey to Joy students:</p>
<p><strong>LIFT YOURSELF UP</strong></p>
<p>Begin to lift yourself up, not put yourself down.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t like something about yourself, work to change it.</p>
<p>If you can&#8217;t change it, simply accept it. Don&#8217;t beat up on yourself with negative self-talk.</p>
<p>You&#8217;re not likely to change for the better when you fill yourself with negative thoughts.</p>
<p><strong>GIVE YOURSELF POSITIVE REWARDS</strong></p>
<p>Give yourself positive rewards.</p>
<p>When you do something that you are proud of give yourself a small reward.</p>
<p>Try not to wait for others to praise you because you may grow resentful if the praise doesn&#8217;t come.</p>
<p>Pat your own back, it is a great feeling that can stay with you for a long time.</p>

<p>Forgive yourself. I doubt that you would keep scolding a child over and over for making a mistake so don&#8217;t do that to yourself.</p>
<p>Give yourself the gift of forgiveness when you make a mistake.</p>
<p>After that, work to figure out what lesson you can learn&#8230;.and use it to make better choices the next time around.</p>
<p><strong>ENJOY YOUR SUCCESSES</strong></p>
<p>Enjoy your successes.</p>
<p>Most people can remember all of the details of depressing, painful or even embarrassing events.</p>
<p>That happened many years ago. What if you did the same thing with all of your wins?</p>
<p>Try to remember all of the triumphs and accomplishments that you&#8217;ve made and keep that memory with you and think about it at least once a week.</p>

<p>Definition of Carbohydrate</p>
<p><strong>What are Carbohydrates?</strong></p>
<p>1. Foods containing carbohydrates include sugars, starches, and cellulose. When eating candy or any sugary foods, carbohydrates are then broken down in order for them to become blood sugar.</p>
<p>2. Carbohydrates come in two forms: simple and complex.</p>
<p>Examples of Simple Carbs &#8211; Chocolate Bar, Doughnuts, cakes, cookies, whipped cream, candies, white bread, white sugar</p>
<p>Once eaten, and because they are processed much faster in your system, you develop a sugar high, right? But then after awhile, that high wears off and you seem to crave more food and more sugar. Stop sugar cravings, eat more high-quality protein and eat no Simple Carbs.</p>
<p>Examples of Complex Carbs &#8211; beans, fruits, whole grains, vegetables, yams</p>
<p>These are foods that are high in fiber and contain starch. Most of these Complex Carbohydrates are processed slower than the Simple Carbohydrates.</p>
<p>These complex carbohydrates are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.</p>
<p><strong>Huge Advantage to anyone on a Weight Loss Diet</strong></p>
<p>When you eat Complex Carbs, you never feel hungry afterwards, you don&#8217;t crave sugar, due to the fact these foods are more slowly absorbed than their counterpart.</p>

<p>Now, here is the key component in choosing either simple or complex carbohydrates. Once either of these carbs is consumed, one of two things can occur. Either you exercise, in which case the fat produced from the carbohydrates is dissipated, or you do nothing, which would then allow the fat to build up. Thus, the diets which have become so popular in reducing carbs play a significant role.</p>
<p>It all boils down to this: carbohydrates and sugars are synonymous. The trick is to discern which foods are digested slower than those which are not. If you are trying to decide whether or not to go on a low-carb diet; research the appropriate foods and exercise that will ensure the efficacy of this specific diet plan.</p>

<p>3/4 cup cooked oatmeal<br />

1/2 cup grated apple<br />
2 cups raw, grated zucchini<br />
1 tablespoon vanilla<br />
3 cups whole-wheat flour<br />
1 teaspoon salt<br />
1 teaspoon baking soda<br />
1 teaspoon baking powder<br />
1 tablespoon cinnamon<br />
1 tsp nutmeg<br />

<p><strong>Instructions:</strong></p>
<p>Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large mixing bowl combine oatmeal, honey, olive oil, apple, zucchini and vanilla.<br />
Beat ingredients until well blended.<br />
In a separate bowl, sift flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg.<br />
Stir both bowls of ingredients above together into a new bowl and blend well.<br />
Pour mixture into 2 small bread pans.<br />
Bake for 1 hour.<br />
Allow bread to cool completely on a cooling rack before serving.</p>

<p>Wash and cut broccoli.  Slice tomatoes into quarters.  Place cut up broccoli in a take along bowl.  Add cherry tomatoes on top of broccoli.  Next sprinkle parsley, chives and salt on top of tomatoes.  Do NOT mix ingredients.  Cover bowl and chill in refrigerator until you&#8217;re ready to eat.  Once you are ready to eat, remove lid from container and mix ingredients together.   Serve.</p>

<p><strong>Cinnamon</strong> was one of the first commodities traded regularly between the Near East and Europe.  Surprisingly, <strong>cinnamon</strong> is a small evergreen tree. It is the bark that is processed which turns into the ground <strong>cinnamon</strong> and <strong>cinnamon</strong> sticks (or quills) we are used to seeing. Its active and healthful components are cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate and cinnamyl alcohol which are derived from the essential oils in the bark.</p>
<p>Ceylon and cassia are the two most popular varieties of <strong>cinnamon</strong>, even though there are hundred of varieties. Cassia, the stronger of the two and the less expensive, is more common in North America. Both cinnamons are an excellent source of trace mineral manganese and a good source of dietary fiber, iron and calcium.</p>
<p><strong>Insulin Reduction</strong></p>
<p>By just digesting a  teaspoon a day, patients with type 2 diabetes had lowered their blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Levels increased when they stopped adding <strong>cinnamon</strong> to their diet.</p>
<p><strong><strong>Cinnamon</strong> normalizes blood sugar levels.</strong> This helps to reduce <strong>cravings</strong> for sugar. This helps to control blood glucose levels by preventing insulin spikes after meals. It reduces serum glucose, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol as well as total cholesterol.</p>
